Female teacher is my best friend/second mother. Should I say "I love you" to her?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi everyone

Before I get started I just want to make things clear...if you're going to lecture me please dont.

okay....

Last year I met my female English teacher, and at first I just thought of her as my teacher. I always went in to her room first thing in the morning to say hi, and then it continued into during passing periods and at lunch etc...and well long story short a year later I realize that I think I love her. I look forward to talking to her, and doing things so I get a hug, and I love the way she smells, her hair is perfect, and I think about her all the time.

I think about her as my best friend, and her daughter is like a sister to me. I dont think of her in any sexual ways, but I just love her to death. I have her email and cell number, and we always keep in touch (summers, vacations, w/e...you get it)

My question is this:

I want to tell her that I love her (not in a sexual way) but as my best friend/second mother and I dont know if I should or not, and if I did what to say so she wont think that I'm a les (because I'm not).

Please help if you can, and no rude remarks please.

Yes, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I love my teacher with all my heart, she is like a best friend to me. She was my teacher last year, but this year, I go up to her room every day after school. She's beautiful and an amazing person. Whenever I hear the song "For Good" from Wicked, I think of her. Sometimes I even cry because I love her so much.

My best friend and I made a thing for her last year with all of the memories that we laugh about. After we sent it to her, she said that she cried because she was so touched by it. When I saw her later that day, we were both hugging and crying. It was the most amazing moment, I always replay it in my head.

We are making her another video soon, and I really hope she gets emotional again because that is when I want to tell her that I love her. I just absolutely love her to death, and when I see her, that is the highlight of my day. Whenever I make her laugh, it makes everything seem worthwhile. I value her more than any non-family member in the world. I email her all the time, she is like my best friend.

I think you can say to your teacher that you see her as a guide/mentor, that she has an influence on the way you approach life, that you are very fond of her and that you like to think of her as a Second Mother. This is not to replace your mother but as an additional factor in your formative years. There are a few poems/ articles if you Google Second Mother. Surely, she will be pleased to attach you to her family and support you through growing up and beyond. Lucky you recognising this so soon, I just spoke to my nominated Second Mother last month and I am 53yrs! I have wasted so many years and even lost touch for as while so please learn from my mistake! I'd love to know what you decide to do. I got the clue from a young student who called Me her Second Mother and my daughter, her other sister... it got me thinking. I gently introduced the idea to my Second Mother and then i chose a date and sent a Second Mother's Day card with a little reminder of our conversation. I intend to send one every year now and to stay in much closer contact; I think she was pleased (we're British, you know, reserved!)and she said that I was to consider myself adopted. I'll come back to this site to see if you comment. Thanks for reading, Marycontrary.
