Question - (8 January 2010) 12 Answers - (Newest, 12 January 2010)
A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Ok this is a very embarrasing question to ask, but I told my boyfriend that I had to clean the drain in my shower because it was clogged. And he asked if I shaved my crotch and I told him no i haven't. Reason is because I was taught to wait till I'm older. I'm not sure how to ask this, but when exactly am I suppose to shave it?

-Thanks

Fatherly Advice agony auntWhen you decide that that is the look you want to have. If you aren't showing the area then you can keep it the way you like it. If you swim you would want to trim up to the swimsuit edges, because that would show. Now if you don't like the way you look to yourself you are free to trim away whatever you don't like. It's only hair and it will grow back. If you are trying to please someone else, I would start by going the way you like it, then making adjustments that you both would like.

As to the shower drain thing. All people shed hair all the time. I like the fact that you take care of your own bathroom and don't make dad do it.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 January 2010):

There is no 'supposed to' about it. Who told you to wait until older - why not ask that person...

Lots of women never shave it. It's your comfort, mostly. It's good to trim a bit because it feels neat. Just be very, very careful.

If you do feel like being hairless, perhaps a little later, when you have an opinion on how you like yourself, you can try any of the methods that suit you, including shaving. Just be sure you read up and try stuff before doing it cause it can get annoyingly irratated and itchy if does not work for you.

PS: Learn to be enigmatic about personal questions like that. Smile and say nothing or tell him some smartass thing. Or ask him does he...

:\ jheez that's a tough one. i'm sixteen and i shaved mine when i was thirteen. However, if you're ready for sex etc and your boyfriend would prefer it shaved then do it whenever you prefer. i personally think why should you shave it if no one's going to see it. Your boyfriend shouldn't care anyway! But if that's the case it's up to you. Don't let my advice push you into anything.

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 January 2010):

Shaving is a personal choice... some women shave, others just give a trim and then others dont shave at all!!

When you shave is when you feel ready to shave, there is no age limit.... I only started shaving when I was in my 20's.... but everyone is different.

I think you bf asked you about shaving because he is just curious...

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 January 2010):

You dont have to shave that area at all if you dont want to. Not everyone shaves. Infact its probably better if you dont as it can be very drying for the skin and lead to rashes and ingrowing hairs that can cause infection. Just have a little trim up and dont worry too much. You are young so your boyfriend wont know whats going on there anyway....i hope x

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 January 2010):

you don't ever have to shave - some women do and some women don't. Just like some women wax and some people don't. Most women tend to trim though because it can get fairly long at times if left to its own devices. There is not a specific age to shave and to be honest, shaving makes your area look like chicken skin and when the hair starts to grow back it can all pickerly and make you tender. I'd say don't shave - trim if you want to though but be careful, scissors and area are not always the best combination.

also if you were taught to do it when you were older - perhaps ask the person who taught you this to define when you'll be old enough.

Boredatwork agony auntYou never need to shave it (as in all off), its all about personal choice.

Do it when/if you want to... and only then.

However it is the norm to keep things trimmed for wearing bikines etc..... and im pretty sure all girls do that as soon as they have a need to. who want carpet poking out the sides on the beach eh!!
