A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have my 3rd driving test on wedsnesday and am feeling so stressed as usual. My other 2 tests I failed on 1 major but other than that had 4 minors...grr.... I'm just finding that my driving is getting worse, I had a driving lesson this morning and made so many mistakes - yet my instructor doesn't feel I need many lessons, I had to insist on my lesson today as he was happy to wait until weds! Does/did anyone else feel they take 2 steps forward and 3 back with driving?

I just don't want to keep going through the stress of getting my licence. I tried bachs remedy rescue' other rhings but they have no effect.

Any advice or stories to enlighten me??

Thanks

SirenaBlusera agony auntConfession... I threw up before my driving test.

I certainly didn't pass on the first try and neither do most people. I read in YM magazine that it takes some people ten tries to pass.

But you have to think of safety first; even when you're taking the test, you're driving, people's safety is in your hands... just focus on being safe.

That's what the examiner is looking for.

kellyxxx agony auntOh gish! I know exactly what you mean! I passed on my 5th time. Its the luck of the day, there's nothing you can do. I took loads of kalms tablets and that seemed to work for me. I doubled up doses (however I don't recommend this incase it affects you in anyway, it didn't affect me but I'm not a doctor or anything, lol) ...its hard, but try and think positive, try not to get nervous. You're gonna get the same advice anywhere, you'll pass when its right for you!x

SirenaBlusera agony auntA lot of people have similar problems, but practicing consistently and staying alert and just concentrating on driving really helps. The driving test is made to be stressful and they try to freak you out and make you think you're going to fail. However, loads of people go through a lot of anxiety about this and eventually they pass.

The more you practice for the test, the higher your chances of success.

I just got my teaching certificate but I certainly haven't mastered teaching yet. I know that I'm going to have to put it into practice for a long time in order to be good at it.

Driving is similar; you understand the rules of the road but you still need practice in order to be good at it.

Just one thing; the real test is every day, in a sense. Driving is scary; the lives of so many others are in your hands. A lot of people take driving for granted, like it's a right... I'm not referring to you, but to the thousands of drivers in my town who drive like idiots and put us all in danger. When you get your license, always be alert when you drive and never let your mind wander. When you get to a light and it's green, always look to make sure no one runs that light before you pull out, because chances are, someone will. (in Britain a green light means go?)
