When I talk to him, though it's not often, he doesn't seem to mind talking to me. He normally looks down, but when he does stare, when I catch him, he either smiles and drops his gaze or looks away really fast. I'm actually trying to become friends with him right now.So, do you think he likes me?

 it looks like he does like you, but just being friends is a good way to start things off because you can get to know him, what he likes, what he's into and you'll know if you are compatible, i think, you shouldn't push things especially if he is shy, but maybe ask him if he wants to hang out sometime, go bowling or the cinema or somthing, and take things from there.
