Does she like me? How do I make sure I don't give her the wrong impression that I like her when I only want to be friends?

A male Singapore age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I am currently studying in school and I have no experience in in dealing with the most minor matters in love, especially when rejecting someone.

A few months ago, a girl in my similar school started a conversation with me on Facebook. We have never spoken before in real life, but I gladly answered her questions in a friendly manner. We ended the conversation that day, but a few weeks later she struck another conversation again and again. One day when we chatted on Facebook, she asked for my number, claiming her Ipad no longer had battery and she wished we could chat via our phone. Thinking that she only wants to continue chatting as friends, I gave her my number without thinking too much. Since then, she frequently SMS me. Her topics were very random and seemingly out of place. Hence, I felt suspicious and wonder: Does she like me?

I do not want to give her the wrong impression that I like her, hence for a while, I started sending short messages to end our conversation. However, she had the strongest ability to continue talking about another topic again and again. I do not know how to deal with her because she seems to be a nice and sunny person underneath and I do not want her to be hurt in anyway through ignoring her messages. What should I do?

Furthermore, I recently found out from my classmate whom is her close friend that she likes me. Although I am not entirely sure of this, I can tell that she has special feelings for me. I am currently in a dilemma now because of my lack in experience in managing these situations and I wish that I can stop misleading her without hurting her in any way.

She is nice and outgoing and she definitely does not deserve any mistreatment from me. What should I do?

Hey there!

I agree with the two replies that you sounds really gentlemen! I think that its great that you spare a thought for her and try to come up with ways to solve this problem of yours! That is really gentlemanly of you!

On a side note, I think you should gradually decrease your conversations to not give her then wrong idea. If not she may really suffer when she knows the truth.

Thats all hope this helps!

Good luck Mr. Gentleman!

A reader, anonymous, writes (22 January 2013):

Sweetie, listen. There is no time to be a gentleman on such issues. There is only one thing to do, and that is to stop your conversations with her. There is no way not to hurt the girl, most definitely. Therefore choose the fastest way to end her pain now dear.

SensitiveBloke agony auntTell your classmate that you hope she's not getting the wrong idea and that you only want to be friends. She'll probably pass the message on.
