A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

A friend of mine recently found out that he has to go to court for a child support hearing. It was issued through another state, one that he has never been to.And he says there is absolutely no possible way that it is his child, because he was still a virgin 3 months before the birth date of the child on the court order. He is very stressed out over this, and his calls to domestic relations have not been returned yet.Im wondering, what are the chances that they just got the wrong person? Does that even happen?

A female reader, PeanutButter United States +, writes (11 November 2009):

PeanutButter agony auntIt really doesn't matter if you've never SEEN the woman in question, let alone have slept with her, if she claims he is the father, the court will chase him until he has proved otherwise! It is actually very common.

Luckily, these days, paternity tests are widely available and so proving that he is not the father will be very easy if this is the case, and the case will be dropped.

He could then go after her for deformation of character or something similar like undue stress etc, if he so wished.

I hope it works out for him, I'd love to know how this story turns out xxx

He needs a DNA test. Nothing less.

And in the meantime, he should try to get as much of the woman's threats & blame as possible on paper. If he can catch her swearing that he's the only possible father and then the DNA test says otherwise, her credibility in the eyes of the judge will be blown to bits.

Oh yes, it happens, and it can screw up lives. I actually know a man who was supposed to be a father. They took his pension. Then thanks to a DNA test, he was able to prove he wasn't a father and he sued for a lot of money (six figures actually). He needs to do a DNA test. That is the only way to be sure.
