Does he still love me or is he completely indifferent? Which one is the real him?

Question - (12 June 2007) 2 Answers - (Newest, 14 June 2007)
A female United States age 36-40, *azed & Confused writes:

I was wondering whether men act more like themselves when they are drunk. There's a saying in Spanish that says that only small children and drunks tell the truth. When people are drunk it seems they are more likely to tell the truth (or they are more likely to just let it SLIP out I guess). I'm confused because my ex treats me more like any of his other friends when he's sober, but treats me like he can't go on without me when he's starting to get a bit drunk (buzzed). That makes me wonder what his true feelings are: does he still love me or is he completely indifferent? Which one is the real him?

nologo agony auntI was wondering what you mean by "real".

What is the meaning of it for you here?

You think "it seems they are more likely to tell the truth"

So probably "true" and "real" are synonyms in your opinion.

There is repeated expression in Girl Dreaming - "true love".

One of the interpretations is "love combined with affection".

It refers to no particular time or place - not to him or you.

But it's what you expect from him and what you want it to be.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (12 June 2007):

the only thing i could say is that people do tend to be a bit braver when they are drunk and alot of the times true feelings do surface. however if you are concerned then i would sit him down and discuss this with him when hes sober. just tell him his actions are confusing you and give your reasons why. youve got nothing to loose by asking him. ;) hope you get your answers
