writes: Goodbye nasty cigarettes, hello brighter future : )I know I'm not exactly posing a question here but today I decided to kick the habit. I have only been smoking a year, I am in college and for whatever reason I gave into the smoking peer pressure. My parents know, everyone knows, my boyfriend and I have quit together. My grandmother also died of lung cancer, there is no part of me that wants to smoke cigarettes anymore, I hate the way it makes me smell, I hate that I am so dependent on it. I'm 22 years old, I don't want to rot my gums, turn my nails yellow, develop holes in my chest. So here I am, I just need some words of encouragement or if there are any ex smokers out there, I really am trying to quit cold turkey and I am just wondering how did you feel? Was it hard? If anyone wants to quit smoking cigarettes with me, we can do it!

Well done ! yipeee! stick at it kid I'm proud of you.
My boyfriend quit smoking three weeks ago, he is in hospital at the moment for bowel cancer...but on top of that he suddenly had a serious problem breathing and the crash team had to come and help him breath, he is okay now thank god. But this extra health problem only occurred because he has C.O.P.D, a lung disease that smokers can get. I intend to stop next week to join him and you in the battle to save our health.
once again well done! there is every reason to quit and i hope i can be as strong as you.

I quit on Saturday (26th) cold turkey, yes it is hard, ive been smoking for 10 months now, not heavily as others, but it was getting up to 10 a day. So I quit before the cigs got a hold of me and i became addicted to them, which i was. Yes im finding it hard and yes it does take will power, but you can do it, When you want to smoke distract yourself, stay away from situations where you would normally smoke (i stay in buildings and take more public transport so i cant smoke) you can do it
Message me if you want to

Couldn't have put it better myself!
Well done on giving up. I stopped smoking about three years ago, one of the best things I ever did. I smoked for about 10 years, quite heavily too. I remember the days of going out drinking and bringing a 20 pack out with me and smoking the lot, yuck!
But, like all ex-smokers, I have to remember I am only ever one cigarette away from being like that all over again. It just takes one and you are back to being a smoker. Remember that, when you next have a craving. There is no such thing as "just one"
Nowadays I am an a really fit person, I exercise 5 or 6 days a week and run about a marathon. I appreciate my health so much, I have far too much respect for my body and you will too when you've given up properly. Good riddance to smoking I say :P
Good luck!

She had been smoking about 20 a day since she was 13 or so, her mother smoked a lot and she had a turbulent childhood. But one day she just quit cold turkey, it takes very strong will power and you HAVE to want to do it. It sounds like you really want to quit, you just have to hold on to what you want, just think any lapses mean that you move further away from what you want and every day you manage without a fag brings you closer to what you want- being smoke free.
You might want to try distraction techniques too, something to keep you busy so you don't think about it as much. You and your boyfriend could go to the gym together or start some kind of hobby that fills any spare time you have. You could also try replacing fags with something else like chewing gum or something, my mum found that she ended up snacking when she wanted a fag- not good for the waistline!! So yeah maybe swap fags with fruit or gum or something, when you get a craving have that instead. Good luck hun!! xxx

My former roommate quit smoking by using the nicotine patch, but I have another friend that just quit cold turkey. The most important factor is your will power! Also, I know when my roommate first was trying to quit, she stayed away from bars becasue it was too tempting to have so many people around her smoking. Good Luck! You can do it if you really want it!
