What you are talking about IS the contraceptive pill. Doctors prescribe it to regulate periods. There are many types of contraceptive, some with only progesterone, some with both estrogen and progesterone. It all depends on the brand, your body, and the possible side effects you would be prepared to deal with.
However, I think you may be too late, as often you are required to start the pills on the first day of your monthly bleed, as when you are on the pill, you do not have a proper period, it is actually a withdrawal bleed from not taking the hormones. It is unlikely they would reccommend running two packs together so you missed a period so soon after starting the pill.
You need to discuss this properly with your Doctor, as they will not dish out hormonal tablets like sweeties just so you dont have to have a period on holiday. That isnt how it works. Any tablet that interrupts your natural hormones can take a while to get used to, and it may take a couple of months, as well as different brands before you find one that suits you. Many pills work fine for some people, and have terrible side effects for others, causing all sorts of horrible things to happen. It is all down to the individual - nothing you can predict until it happens. You seem to be of the belief (which worries me a lot) that you can just take these tablets as a lifestyle choice that you can pick up and take when you want them. These are serious medications, and can have the same serious side effects as any other strong medication. Why do you think they are prescribed? Any woman who has had such side effects will tell you that messing with hormones can be a very dangerous thing indeed, which can often take months to sort out.
You may be lucky and hit the right brand of pill first time round, but it will still take your body a while to get used to it.
Personally, I think this time you are just going to have to accept nature and get on with having your period on holiday. Yes it is a pain, but it is part of life and it isnt really that much hassle in the great big scheme of things!
Once you get back, book a Doctors appointment and get yourself educated on the contraceptive pill.
