A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I think i might be Bipolar, my moods are high and low constantly and people say it's just hormones but when im low i get really low and my sex drive is so high. i'm worried to go to the doctors about it though because in later life when i'm applying for jobs i'd have to put it on the form right? and telling people would be kinda hard and i don't think theres alot of things you can do for this.

does anybody know more about manic depression?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (12 November 2008):

Look up manic depression on the internet. ~There are tests you can do to see whether you might have it. It might also give you more information about the forms, whether the doctor would still put that on or not.

SirenaBlusera agony auntI'm not sure what the laws are in Britain regarding job applications, but I should think that it would be confidential.

Only a doctor can make a diagnosis, though... I hate for anyone to suffer from depression, but there could be other causes. There may be something pysical, or it may be diet.

Go to a doctor because suffering all the time sucks a lot, you'll feel better if you get it checked out.

When you are a teenager you can get very bad mood swings! I used to be the same and I considered being bipolar but I'm fine now! It could be a phase that you're going through, but if it gets worse and won't go away and others get worried about you then yes, you should see a doctor.

I don't think it will affect your job much, otherwise it might be seen as discrimination. There are many successful people with Bipolar - did you know that Stephen Fry and Russell Brand both have the condition? You could even become an agony aunt - you'd have the right experience to give some good answers!
