hlskitten agony auntA woman can get pregnant whilst on her period, extremely rarely, but even that article says the chances are highest 14 days after, not during. Ive never heard of anyone ovulating during their period! That makes no medical sense whatsoever. So i would question that article myself anyway. Wheres it from, Timbuktoo?

Anyway, question asker, i would take the morning after pill, just to be on the safe side. Doesn't have any nasty side effects these days. And is only 1 pill. Levonelle its called here, not sure about there.

Laura1318 agony auntCan you get pregnant during your period?

The debate on whether or not a woman can get pregnant during her period has been going on for decades now.

Just like every woman is different, so are her hormonal balances and hence her menstrual cycle.

Though there are generalities on which some ground basics of menstruation and pregnancy can be formed, but eventually it all boils down to individual physiology.

So, yes, you can get pregnant during your periods.

A womans period can be from 23 days to 35 days and the sperm

can live inside your body from 5 to 7 days....and not just 48 hours!

There are a lot of variables.

Which means to say that 14 days after your 1st day of period is your most fertile period .

This is the same as saying that 14 days before your period is most fertile.

That means 14 days before your 1st day of period and 14 days after your period is most fertile!

This is the range because not every woman have a 28 days period.

I am not a doctor but some sites said it is 3 days before

and after and some sites said it is 7 days before and after.

and now this 14 days and after.

In the end, you decide which to believe, for everyday having

unprotected sex is a risk of getting pregnant...LOL!

hlskitten agony auntA similar question someone else posted elsewhere. Hopeit helps..

Question

I am on the second day of my period. I am not on the Pill and my boyfriend and I had intercourse last night and the condom split.

I have heard from various people that you are least likely to become pregnant when you are having a period. Is this true, as I would rather not take the morning after Pill if it is highly unlikely I could be pregnant.

Can you also tell me when are the most fertile part of a woman’s cycle, I have been told it is around 14 days after the last day of your period.

Answer

It is extremely unlikely that you would get pregnant just now. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days - that is counting day one as the first day of menstrual bleeding then the next period is due to start 28 days later.

The period comes because an egg fails to get fertilised. The period comes about 12 to 14 days after the egg is produced. Therefore, in the average 28 day cycle the egg is produced around day 14. Sperms can live happily 48 hours in the vagina or the uterus so the most fertile time is day 12 to day 16.

The least likely time to conceive is from day one to day seven. If your cycle is different from 28 days on average you have to adjust the calculations - the important thing to remember is that the egg is produced about 14 days BEFORE the next period starts - so there's always a bit of guess work involved.

Yours sincerely

hlskitten agony auntHi

Pretty much zero chance, but pretty much means theres still some chance. But i dont agree with Laura, the most fertile time is about 14 days after a period. Based on an average 28 day cycle.

Laura1318 agony aunt3 days before and after the first day of period is your most fertile period.

There is a big risk of getting pregnant...

Better take the morning after pill which is effective before 72 hours.
