Doctor said I might have syphilis or Lupus, when I called to check they were rude and wouldn't return my calls. I'm very confused as to what to do.

O.K. this is very complicated,I am ten weeks pregnant,10 days ago my ob-gyn told me my blood work came back suspicious,so I basically have syphilis or Lupus. She said she would rush the blood work and I would no something by the 4th day, when I call they are rude and the nurse never returns my calls. For ten days I've been going insane,I also lost some tissue 6 days ago and figured I would miscarry but nothing happened after that.I really need to see a good doc.but I still need my blood work results and my medical history reports,is this the worst doctor ever or what? I just need to know if any body has been here or has any suggestions I am really cracking up,please.

Hi!

I have lupus.

the reason they gave you that odd answer is that you can get a false positive test result for syphillus when you actually have lupus instead. it's just one of those weird things. maybe they ahve the same antibody.

to figure out whether you have lupus, you need to have 4 of the 11 classic symptoms of lupus, which include:

-Pain in the joints of the hands, arms, shoulders, feet, legs, hips or jaws - may be accompanied by swelling, redness and heat

-A red rash across the upper cheeks and over the bridge of the nose (Butterfly rash)

-photosensitivity (reaction to sunlight)

- fatigue/ exhaustion

-A red scaly rash on the face, scalp, ears, arms or chest.

-Small, usually painless sores found on the moist lining of the nose or mouth.

-Chest pain that worsens when breathing or lying down.

- weight loss

-Weight gain and swelling of the feet and legs which is caused by decrease in kidney function (this weight is water retention)

-hair loss

-Seizures or severe mental illness

-A decease in the number of red or white blood cells or platelets.

-Presence of certain factors in the blood, specifically the LE cell, anti-native DNA auto antibodies, anti-Sin auto antibodies or a positive test for syphilis. (A falsely positive syphilis test indicates an abnormality in the immune response. There is no relationship between lupus and venereal diseases.)

-Presence of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in the blood

SO, a lot of these symptoms you can figure out for yourself but a doctor would have to get the tests done to determine the blood/ antibody stuff.

you need to see a rheumatologist. that's the kind fo dr who deals with lupus. and being preganant you do NOT need to wait for months!!!

i realizse you may have to get a referral depending on your insurance, but shop for doctor who can see you soone,r or call and ask to be put on the waiting list in case someone cancels their appointement, explainging that not just your but your babie's life depends on getting proper care. tell them your kidneys could fail. wave red flags. your kidneys may be fine, but they may not! this is really important that you get some care!

go to lupus.org to learn more, and go to wehavelupus.com to chat with knowledgeable caring people who have been living with lupus, some of them for years.

and know this- female hormones and pregancy can exacerbate lupus, so once your hormones are normal again, sometime post-pregnancy, you may be lupus-free after that. let's hope so.

wishing you the best- get some care!!!

I think I am going to lose my mind due to stress, worry and the unknown. I guess I'll continue google everything I think of,thanks for all your help.

rcn agony auntCall them back and let them know you need to speak to the lab. if they are rude again, let them know they can either provide you with the information you you'd file a complaint, and request the Health Department contact them and request the information on your behalf.
