A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Hey, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. I'm confused and would appreciate some advice. I'll try to keep it short, too. I've known this boy since third grade. I went to the same high school with him in freshman year. We talked, but not a lot. I ended up moving to a different school for sophomore year. Anyway, I saw him at a football game and decided to go say hi. He hugged me, which surprised me. He asked me how I was, why I moved, etc. I told him I had to go, and he hugged me again. Well, on Monday he asked my friend (that goes to the same school as him) for my number. He called me on Tuesday and asked me to hangout at the park with him. I brought a friend because I thought he was goin to do the same. He came alone. When my friend wandered off, he asked me if I had a boyfriend. I said no. My friend came back and we changed the subject.

A couple days later, we started texting. Out of the blue, he asked me to formal. I was surprised, but said yes. Later that day, he told me that he wanted to tell me something that he always wanted to, but never found the right words. He told me he would tell me at the talent show. I went to the talent show and waited for him when it was over. My friend said he was coming, so I tried to look normal. He walked straight past us and kept on walking. One of his friends starts yelling his name, but he didn't turn around. Later, I asked the friend if he knew where he went. He asked me if I was *insert my name here* and I said yes. The friend said he left. The next day, he texts me asking me why I wasn't at the talent show. I said I was. He said he thought he saw me, but he didn't know for sure. I told him that his friend was calling his name and that he didn't turn around. He said he was on the phone. I told him that I still wanted to hear what he had to say. He texted back that he wasn't feeling well and that he was going to bed. That was yesterday, and I haven't talked to him since. I'm certain that he wasn't on the phone at the talent show. My friends all say that he chickened out. I believe this, because he's shy. What do you think? Do you think he likes me? I failed to mention that he met my parents and he asked me if they liked him. Also, that he went all the way to my school to get a copy of my ID picture for the formal. I'm sorry that this ended up being really long!

Thanks so much for the advice! He called me today and asked me if I wanted to go see a movie tomorrow! I'm so excited. I won't bring up the talent show. Thanks again!

Yeah he totally likes you! Why he didn't talk to you at the talent show is probably like your friends say, he chickened out.

What you need to do is drop it. I know you are dying to know what he wants to tell you but apparently he is not ready so DO NOT press the subject anymore. Don't bring it up again. Just have fun with him and let things flow. Eventually it will come up but let him bring it up on his own terms. So in the meantime act like you don't even remember he had something to tell you. Trust me on this.

And good luck. Have fun at the formal!
