The signs that a man loves you should be clear, although smetimes they are there just day to day life sheilds them, it could just be that hes stressed at the moment and his priorities are slighlty mixed up.
You should feel if he loves you, it should be there everytime you see him, it should be in the kiss in the hug even the slightest touch its there.
I think your aunty is right, guys need a balnce of there own space and the security of a relationship sometimes they struggle in balancing it right and it sends out the mixed signals that your getting.
Talk to him, tell him sometimes its like he doesnt love you any more, let him know how that hurts you.
Eventually hell be straight with you, it may be down to stress but he cant use constant excuses or youll stay in this situation never really moving forward.
Everyone deserves to know where they stand, right now hes not giving you that and your begining to question everything.
