They always have to intervene themselves and help out a little bit and then I finish it off--it just takes forever and I am doing all of the things people say to do etc. but it seems like I can't ever get it right and the gag reflex does not help much either...do I suck at giving blow jobs? literally?

It does seem likely you are bad at it, although as the guy gets closer the tempo and the amount of sensation can change. This is why guys sometimes take over at the end.Every guy will be a bit different which complicates things. The best way is to have some kind of dialogue with the guy to get the right idea. You need to solicit feedback and be open to it. Licking and strong suction are usually wrong. You should be bobbing with a small amount of rotation, letting your hand work the shaft. You might want to checkout some amateur porn to see what guys like- getting the finish right is especially important. There are a few amateur porn youtube like sites out there that you can google for. Once you have some samples, see if your bf endorses the technique or opens up with some suggestions.

Some guys are too calloused down there from all the wacking they do. Also, be tactful but do remind them that you do have a vagina, and if they don't want to wack when you're together, then they don't have to do so (but I guess some guys have trouble breaking long practiced techniques) as you could simply have intercourse.
