I agree with the above except that I think it goes both ways. If he is a good friend, then hopefully he will understand. This also depends on what kind of contact you have had with the sister.

It's not a good idea to mess with a friend's sibling, usually.

I guess ultimately the question comes down to which you value more: this friendship or the possibility of a romantic relationship with your friend's sister (and really, it's going to be hard if not impossible to have both).

Do what you have to do, but there are a lot of girls out there, and do you know whether your friend's sister is even interested in you?

If I were you I'd leave the sister alone.
