You could say that you want to get more healthy and it would be great if he could support you?
Find ways that you can make working out fun for both of you. Or, if he's a couch potato, suggest that you do something fun after the workout as a reward.
Also, when you go on dates, don't go to places that serve alcohol, because that's really fattening and you get no nutrition from it. Try something like bowling or snooker. These things don't feel like exercise, but burn more calories than sitting in the cinema or in a restaurant.
Good luck! xx

"I read somewhere that if you have someone who will lose weight with you, you're far more likely to succeed. I really wish I had someone who would go on a diet with me so I can look extra sexy for you this summer..."
Then follow him round making puppy eyes until he agrees.
Good Luck!! xx

If you love him and want him to lose a little weight, why not exercise together. Tell him you want to tone up a bit and would like for him to join you. Possibly join a gym or just walk/job together. If you make it about you instead of about him, I am sure he would love the idea.
Good Luck!
Jeff
