writes:I'm hoping you lot can help settle my mind about this.I had sex yesterday for the first time, but i'm unsure if my hymen broke or not. When he went inside me, the pain was excruciating... he had to pull out several times because i was almost crying in agony. Anyway, we was just trying again one last time and i had to stop him AGAIN because it was still so painful, i just wanted to give up. Then as i looked down, i noticed all this blood on his sheets and on his genital area. He was convinced we'd done it! but i'm unsure, surely if it had broken i wouldnt still have been in pain on our last attempt? I'm really scared that it hasnt broken because i could not bare going through the pain again... it's an experience i would rather forget!

From what you've described it does sound like your hymen will have been broken. Each women is different when it comes to their first time, I know a friend of mine who didn't feel a twinge of pain, however it felt like torture to me!I doubt that there is anything wrong, a mixture of nerves and uncertainty can make you increadibly tense, which can add to the uncomfort of your first time.Next time you and your fella' try it again, take your time and relax. I know this may be difficult, especially as your first time unnerved you a tad.Lubrication is a key factor too, if you're on edge you generally aren't adequately lubricated (your body is too busy worrying about other things!) So using some extra Lubrication may help. (Lube generally can be bought anywhere Condoms are sold, it's even given away with comdoms on the NHS!) Sex shouldn't be painful at all, so if after the next time (And as I said, you both take your time!) you may want to just pop yo your doctors and let them examine you. It takes all of five minutes, there's absolutely NOTHING to be embaressed about, and it puts your mind at rest.Apple Blossom x

reader, anonymous, writes (28 June 2009): i'm going to assume that it WAS broken seeing as there was blood. it probably still hurt the second time because it was either still tearing, or simply because, hey, you just tore a sensitive membrane and it's still bleeding. give it a few days and try again, and it probably won't hurt as badly.

reader, anonymous, writes (28 June 2009): I think he probably did break your hymen as you bled and it hurt.I would try it again and it may hurt as it did for me the second time i had sex but if it bleeds again then maybe you havent broken your hymen.when the penis goes all the way in even if you feel pain then yes youve broken the hymen.
