Crush, infatuation or love?

Question - (25 March 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 25 March 2009)
A female Singapore age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have a crush on this guy who is 3 years older and me. I think he is hot and really really cute. He's always on my mind, I smile whenever I hear his name and I could smile through my tears if I see him. I'm pretty sure this is just a crush and I'm not claiming this as love as I usually do with my friends because I was just joking.

Anyway, back to my point, could someone please define Crush, Infatuation and Love for me? I have said I love someone many times but in actual fact, I'm struggling to grasp what it really means.

Thanks for reading this question =D

crush

- informal an intense infatuation.

infatuate

· v. (be infatuated with) be inspired with an intense but short-lived passion for.

– ORIGIN C16: from L. infatuat-, infatuare ‘make foolish’.

love

1 an intense feeling of deep affection. Ø a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone. Ø a great interest and pleasure in something. Ø affectionate greetings.

2 (Love) love personified, often as the Roman god Cupid.

3 a person or thing that one loves. Ø Brit. informal a friendly form of address.

· v. feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to. Ø like very much. Ø [as adj. loving] showing love or great care.

– PHRASES for love for pleasure not profit. for the love of God used with an urgent request or to express annoyance. make love 1 have sexual intercourse. 2 (make love to) dated pay amorous attention to. not for love or money informal not in any circumstances. there’s no love lost between there is mutual dislike between.

As you can see, all three involve different degrees on the feelings of "love". But isn't it interesting, that "love" has more explanation than "infatuation" and "crush"?

That alone should be able to "guide" you how you feel about this guy.

But whatever it is, enjoy the feeling!
