 Life is too short to let other people make all the moves, there's no harm is asking him out for coffee or something relaxed that isn't as full on as a date, see where it goes from there.
Just remember that you don't want to be the fall back from ihs break up from his previous relationship so do let him do some of the moving in and asking you out when he is ready else you'll end up being the person he'll be with to get over the break up and you don't want that.
Enjoy the fact that he's single, get to know him a little more and see where it goes - nothing ventured, nothing gained!!
