I have a huuge fear of going over the sea, as I keep thinking it will sink. I don't understand how ships work, so I doubt how trusty they really are.Could anyone help me to get over this? I'm fearing it'll ruin my first holiday away with my boyfriend.Thank you!

I've taken one from the Netherlands over to England. They are lots of fun with movie theaters, bars and restaurants on board. They are pretty huge, so the motion of the ocean isn't as pronounced as it would be on a smaller vessel. You know, you only hear about accidents with airplanes and boats once in a while, but there are car accidents every single day - thousands and thousands of them all over the world! We only hear about airplane and ferry accidents because they are rare - and because they carry more people. Airplanes can have huge loss of life because of this, but usually a ferry accident has no loss of life, most people have lifejackets and are transferred into lifeboats. The channel is a busy one with lots of traffic, and help is never far away. You can probably ask in advance of your journey about all of the safety features for your ferry, if that helps you to ease you mind.
Well, having said all this, You are probably safer on the ferry than on the road in a car!

They are very safe. My school has been taking the Dover to Calais ferry every year for about 15 years (I started 2 years ago) and it hasn't sunk in all that time. So don't worry, there's lots of things you can do on the ferry to pass the time so don't think about it, you'll soon have your feet firmly on the land again!
