Everything has different amounts of calories in. I just ate a bag of crisps with 169kcal, but if I ate a bag of carrot sticks they would have a lot less. In many countries it has the number of kcal (calories) on the packets, but otherwise you can google it.
You need to eat 2000 a day if you are a woman and 3000 a day if you are man. If you are on a diet then it is safe to go down to 1200 or 1500. If you are hitting the gym then you could stay at 2000 and you will still lose weight because you are burning more off.
Good Luck!! xx

Here in the Uk, everything seems to have calories listed on the packet now. And you can google fow many calories are in things.
But 300 calories isn't enough. Depends on all sorts of things like your height, what weight you want to lose etc, but you will be hard pushed to lose weight on 300 cals. Your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto any fat it gets, this usually presents itself round the tummy area.
1200 calories would be the minimum an adult should go down to. But have a look on sparkpeople .com its free and can tell you what calories to eat per day based on your stats and what you want to lose and how quickly.
