She used a fake name to create the account. She sent the email from another computer, but she started drafting it at my place. There was nothing in the email to indicate my identity. I knew what she was doing (ie we started the whole process as co-conspirators over a few glasses of wine) but I got cold feet. She didn't.Question: Would there be anything that this guy could see that would show that the email account had been created from my computer? He is not an IT person.

Are you 30-35 or 13-15? Grow up if you fancy someone just tell them rather than being all sneaky and weird about it!

One last thing. If you used MS Word or another program like that to write the e-mail and sent the e-mail from the program, not the e-mail system, or if the message was a MS Word .DOC file attached to the e-mail, he may be able to find out something about who sent it. Google "meta data" for more info.
If the e-mail was sent directly from the g-mail system, the chances of him tracing it are basically zero. Even if the IP address went with the e-mail, and he figures out how to read it, all that will tell him is the a service provider that was used to connect to the internet, and a unique account identifier. He cannot get the name of the account holder, nor any information on the computer that logged into the internet to send the e-mail.
If you friend has sent him e-mails before using the same internet log in as she used to send the secret one, if the IP addresses went with both e-mails, and if he can find them, he will be able to see the emails were sent using the same ISP account. But this does not get him to you, just your friend.
So if you WANT him to find out you are crushing on him without you telling him, you will have to find another way.

"The IP address will be the same, it's easy to check. So yes he could tell if he looked."
Web site administrators can see the IP address of viewers and posters on their sites. This does NOT tell them what computer is being used; only what Internet Service Provider (ISP) account is being used. If you log into you ISP from 2 different computers, the administrator of the web sites you visit will see the same IP address for the 2 different computers.
Sending e-mails is different from visiting web sites. E-mails generally do not come with IP addresses nor ISP information that the receiver of the e-mail can usually see.

I have never sent him an email from my macbook, nor made any other net contact via my macbook. So this means he would not have an IP address to compare it to - right? Or am I missing something?
Can you get the IP address info of where an email account is created? Or only where the email was sent from?

Not an IT person, then no, no way he can trace it. Even a person with a lot of hacking skills will need to look on the computer it was sent from and your macbook to know. You can’t tell just from the e-mail where it came from, you have to know something about the computer (like something you can get with a court order to look at Intell’s and Apple’s records of processor numbers.) However if he is a smart guy I bet he figures it out without IT skills or a court order. I’m guessing this will be a good thing for you.
Best of luck.
