Quit it right away before its too late. Because it will be a awkward thing for both of you looking back when you're older.

You can start by sitting down with the eldest of your relations and pick their brains as to who married who in the past, names of children, who they married and so on, their birthdates and where they were born. Once these people have died you can't ask them - so do it now!
I've recently done this with the help of http://www.ancestry.com where you can build up your tree quite easily, and it does most of the work for you apart from what I've mentioned above. It's a UK site and has access to UK population census records and other site members family trees which you can link to your own, and which are very useful. Eventually all the pieces of the jigsaw start to slot into place.
I've gone back as far as the birth of my GGG grandfather in 1798 and all the births on my father's side of the family from then unti I was born were all within a 25 mile radius of Leicester. My mother was born in Canada and I've found cousins that I never knew existed. It's an interesting pastime too, but be prepared for some serious puzzles!
The chances are that you're related somewhere along the line unless you're called Smith!

I am assuming that you both know who your fathers are and have contact (or have a least seen what they look like) so know that they are not the same person.
Even really uncommon surnames crop up (my son's Dr has the same last name spelt the same way and that's really unusual) and are nothing to do with each other.
If you are really worried you could always ask your mums, they should be able to tell you a little more about family background.
