Could it be down to stress?

I have not had a period in three months and have not been sexually active for over 6 months. Back in june i had missed a period, took a test, negative. I went three months without a period but was not prego. Plus, i got my period in july, had one in august and september, now i havent been sexually active in over 6 months and haven't gotten my period in 3 or more months. Could it be stress or what not?
