Wendyg agony auntIts always worthwhile getting yourself tested every so often if you do have unprotected sex and a lot of partners. It cant hurt now can it, for peace of mind if nothing else, plus stops the risk of things being passed to others. If she has recently been tested and as a clear bill of health then its slightly less chance that you would have something. But that said, you could have the HPV virus as this is present in the system for a while before it presents itself. It cant help to get yourself tested too just to be sure, as she obviously wanted to make sure she was okay so the least you can do is make sure your clear too, so that if you were carrying something you dont now pass it on to her.

tux agony auntI'm assuming you have been having sex with her.. particularly unprotected sex. Yes it is still a possibility that you may be infected with an STD that you have just yet to pass on to her. I would stop and get tested to make sure. As it has been mentioned such conditions like HPV and herpes can just rest in your system so can Hiv... and just because you have something does not mean she has caught it yet. Basically, you can have unprotected sex with a HIV infected person and walk off without catching it, not that I would take that risk. But get tested and be careful.

aunty butterfly agony auntNot being funny, but don't you think you could save yourself a lot of bother by asking your doctor? i mean your'e wasting precious time by asking us on here, and you could have passed your lover something in this time period...If you care about your own well being and your relationship, get your backside moving down that clinic, you could even ruin your chances for having children...i wish you luck...Aunty B xx

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (20 June 2006):

DrPsych agony auntYes it is entirely possible that you may have a std if you have a sexual past prior to being with this girl. Certain conditions such as the HPV virus and herpes can just rest in your system for years without symptoms. There is only one way to find out for sure and that is to be tested.

AshyTay agony aunt~you are a bit brief here. When did your girlfriend have these tests done? If she had them done after she had slept with you, it's unlikely you have an std.
