A female reader, anonymous, writes (7 June 2008):

It is a little late for this advice, but if you are not pregnant then go back to the place you are getting your pills from and ask them for what is called plan B. At planned parenthood they will give these to you to take home. It is a pill that you take up to but no later than 72 hours after unprotected sex so if you missed the pill it will make sure you dont get pregnant. Also you might want to look into the depo shot. It is once every three months and once it is in your system about 6 to 9 months it is a very low risk you will get pregnant even without a condom. Its a lot safer as far as pregnancy goes than the pill. I have been on it for almost 4 years and i've been having unprotected sex (with the guy i lost my virginity to and vice versa so i know there isn't a chance of an STD)for more than 3 years and i haven't once been pregnant!

Star_07 agony auntWith most pills, you should expect your period when you are on the placebo pills or shortly after. Thats about 3 weeks after your first pill. The soonest you should try a pregancy test is 2 weeks after you had unprotected sex.

MissKin agony auntSaying that - did you forget completely? Or did you take it within twelve hours? With this pill you get a twelve hour safety zone. if you took it within twelve hours of the time ur supposed to then it's a lot less likely that you're pregnant. If you forgot it completely then it's more likely. Either way you should definitely make sure to get a test.

Waiting for your next period is fine - but if you're like me, it's random and irregular and sometimes just spotting, on this pill some people don't have one at all. So it's harder to tell. I suggest talking to a doctor - even anonymously on the phone if not in person, to find out when you should take a pregnancy test.

A female reader, MissKin United Kingdom +, writes (5 June 2008):

MissKin agony auntI'm on the same pill as you. But to be honest it's hard to tell. Did you know, sperm can survive like for a few days and you can actually conceive the day after you've had sex? So in this case, yes you could be pregnant. You also have to wait seven days before you're protected again with this pill. It takes seven days to work it's way back into your system properly. You should always use a condom if you've forgotten your pill and really you should use one anyway to make sure you're twice as safe and don't catch any diseases if you're sleeping with someone you don't know very well.

I'd wait and then take a pregnancy test and then see your doctor.

hope it all works out.

Star_07 agony auntThere is always a chance that you could be pregant, even when you take the pill everyday. It just depends on your body b/c everyone is different.

When I was on the pill, even when I forgot, I never had a problem. Then there are some that get pregnant on the pill, taking it every day. You should wait until your next expected period to worry about it. Take your pill how you are supposed to. You probably will be fine but yes, there is always a chance.
