my frend was abused as a child by his father and his father was charged and the report was put into the local paper some years back. my friend would now like revenge on his father and has got a copy of the newspaper report and would like to go and show it to a few of his fathers friends who know nothing about this. could my friend get into trouble for doing this?

Dr Vendetta agony auntI'd like to update my statement:

the reason i said he "could" get in trouble is all down to a time factor. after 10 years if you accuse that person it it, it can be considered slander or defamation of character.

however as several others pointed out it was reported in a new paper.

DrPsych agony auntIf his father was charged and convicted of child protection offences then it would not be defamation of character/ libelous to show the information to people. However, I think this intention reflects a very angry victim who needs specialist counselling to get over what has happened to him. As his friend I suggest you advise him to talk to his GP or the NSPCC about possible community services available to him. After all, 'revenge' can never turn back time and make the abuse go away.

brooke5426 agony auntno he cant get in trouble. it was reported in the paper, so its out there and available for the public to see. He's not doing anything illegal or "wrong" by showing them something which they could come across for themselves but i dont think its very healthy. has your friend had counselling or therapy? i think he needs a bit of help getting over what happened and letting go so he can move on with his life. of course he is angry and it must be very hard for him to see that his father has rebuilt his life and has people in it who think hes a decent person and have no idea what he did. but putting so much energy into revenge cant be good for him.

Dr Vendetta agony auntwell.. if he just takes the papers and says DUH look At This!!!!.. then.. yeah its entirely possible he could get in trouble..

if this were a movie and i were writing the script i would say have your friend take the new paper to a printers have just that one page copied. then buy XXX loacl/free news papers from a local store and slip the page in. and then deliver then through the door. of course i'd write the character to wear gloves. and make up some story to the printers that it's for a stage production.

and of course then get rid of the evidence.

but.. thats what i'd do if it were a movie and i strongly recommend you ignore what i said as it could be unlawful.

happy new year

x-Happy-Feet-x agony auntno he couldnt but i think it would be pointless ,why do that, he's done his charge, let him move on and forget about it, that's selfish enough, people hate him already, i don't think he would want to lose his mates, i'm not picking the fathers side, he is a cruel, horrible man but i'm saying i don't think it's a good idea so tell your mate that!
