What about a small white painful bump on the tip of the tongue that lasts more than a week or what about small bumps at the back of the throat and dehydration? This has been lasting a while now and when I eat it causes pain to the top of my throat and it is painful to swallow. I'm really wondering what this is?

Something else that could cause these symptoms is "Thrush," which is essentially a yeast infection. It is quite a bit less serious than oral herpes, but deserves attention. Perhaps thrush is not the cause however, because you do not mention a white or fuzzy coating on the tongue.
