A male Cyprus age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok So i wanted to ask this question because a friend said that u cant get infected with aids if u swallow blood and u dont have cuts or sores

I was like noway man u do get aids from swallowing blood

I said that coz i've read that u can get aids from giving oral sex..if u do get from oral sex its because u swallowed ur partners fluids.. then i thought it is the same for blood

i couldnt stand that anymore i was soo curious about it

So i google it

And this is what i found

"If you swallow blood infected with HIV you can get infected only if you have some erosions in the mouth, throat or esophagus."

And now i am like..man how is this possible

Get infected from oral But not from swallowing blood

Please help me understand this

Its drives me crazy coz i really dont get it..how can u not get infected by swallowing blood but u can from giving oral..sounds weird to me :s

Sweet-thing agony auntYou can become infected by exchanging bodily fluids through french kissing, sex, oral sex anal sex and coming in contact with open wounds. Usually the person who is carrying aids virus can infect you with any of these bodily fluid exchanges. Safe sex is using a condom and not kissing, or doing oral sex.

baddogbj agony auntThe HIV virus is delicate when it is outside of it's preferred home environment - your blood. The acids in your stomach are strong and would pretty quickly deal with the virus. The risk with oral sex, which honestly isn't that huge (still best not to gamble when losing means death!) comes from any small cuts or open sores in the mouth or throat which would allow the virus to get into your blood stream. This is why, although good dental hygiene is nice, it is NOT a good idea to brush your teeth before or indeed immediately after introducing someone else's body fluids into your mouth unless you know them really quite well. This is because brushing your teeth can easily open small cuts in your gums.
