A female Ireland age 41-50, anonymous writes:

How far up is it normal for a condom to slip? Everytime after he pulls out its pretty near the top and I was wondering if it would put me at risk of getting pregnant. Also, he stays inside me for a little while after we're done, and I wanted to know is there a chance the sperm could trickle down and get on the walls of my vagina?

person12345 agony auntIf you don't want to be on the pill in addition to the condom, I've heard great things about adding in these little sheets/films of spermicide. They're less messy than the creams and it's a good backup. A test might not give you a positive only six days later, give it a few more days. Be sure to use the urine from very first thing in the morning, it will be most concentrated then.

You always always always need to hold onto the base. Always. You should also relax your pelvic muscles as he pulls out.

chigirl agony auntYou or him need to HOLD on the condom when he pulls out. It is described in the instructions. You need to hold on the condom, or else you risk that it falls off. Im thinking your boyfriend and you aren't holding on it when it pulls out, because if you did this wouldn't happen.

Thanks for the answers! My period is six days late which made me wonder. I took a test yesterday which was negative, but I'm not entirely convinced. No he doesn't hold it before pulling out. Staying inside me has never been something either of us have ever given a second thought to, we just like the feeling of calming down while still being "intertwined". I'm just worried about if I should say anything to him about this, I've only known him since October, been sleeping with him since November and things have kind of cooled off lately, although we'll definitely stay friends cos it wasn't serious at all.

Well if you read the instructions then you know what you should do to be totally safe. Reality is always different which is way nothing is 100%. How unsafe can you be? thats hard to say. Basically if the sperm is caught in the condom its ok. If sperm gets in you right at the outside its going to take a really active sperm to travel the distance and survive the spemicide!! After orgasm the penis can shrink pretty quickly and if not immediatly withdrawn as per instructions then what you describe happens. Certainly I remember that. Remember, sex always has the chance of pregnancy, thats what its all about.

person12345 agony auntYes that puts you at risk for getting pregnant and yes the semen could trickle down. He needs to hold the base of the condom before he pulls out. He should also reach down and check that the condom is still in place (has not slid up) before he ejaculates.

He should not stay inside you after he finishes. As he goes soft the semen can leak out. He absolutely should not continue moving after finishing as he can push the semen out of the base of the condom. Most condoms do not contain spermicide.

A male reader, Honest Answer United States +, writes (10 February 2012):

Honest Answer agony auntIt seems that one of two things is happening:

1. The condom does not fit (too large)

2. He is losing his erection before pulling out

As long as the condom you are using has a spermicide (it kills sperm) you should be ok. If not, you do infact risk pregnancy.

Good Luck!

Jeff
