A reader, anonymous, writes (6 March 2009):

honestly, it's really not that easy to get pregnant, his sperm and your egg have to meet and your egg has to be released, which happens during ovulation. Most of the time, when you're young, you don't even ovulate, and that's due to an imbalance in hormones, irregular periods, stress, vitamin/mineral deficiencies. I doubt that you're pregnant, but you should think about maybe going on birth control if you're going to be sexually active.

Good luck!

jessica04 agony auntThere is no way to tell right now. The best way to determine is to wait for your next period. If you skip it, then take an at-home test or go to a clinic (we have what is called "planned parenthood" in the U.S., and it's almost free) and one of their physicians can administer a test.

I assume you aren't already, but you should talk to your parents about getting on birth control. It has other great benefits for teens, such as regulating periods and clearing up acne. It is not 100% though, so you should still use a condom.

If you can, go to your local pharmacy and ask about the Morning After pill which is emergency contraception that has a 72hr window to work. Go tonight if able.
