One night we both had quite a bit to drink and he told me that he was scared because he could easily fall in love with me. I was elated because I feel the same way but now he is being very distant.  It sounds that he does fancy you but doesn't want to give in. Maybe your telling him that you like him too will bring him to you, but, maybe not. It sounds like something stops him.
