A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I work with this guy who seems to be shy. I think he likes me but we never really talk because I'm shy too. I feel like I'm in high school tho because of how unsure and nervous he makes me feel and he seems to act the same way around me. Heres a few reasons why I think he likes me:

One morning I got coffee, I always get a large coffee and an energy drink to drink after my coffee, but it was the only time he rang me out, and when he did it came out to be like a dollar cheaper than usual. When I asked why it was cheaper he got all studdery and said "oh I accidently rang you up for a medium." Claiming since he had transferred from another store he didn't put in the proper code in, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case and that all our codes are the same.

I was working with my head down while he was at my departments counter getting assisted, when I looked up he had been staring at me and had a "Oh crap! I got caught!" face and looked away suddenly and blushing. But I think he was just feeling me out because I do that sometimes too, I get so caught up in analyzing someone who doesn't see me that when they see me looking I feel like a creep and it makes me uncomfortable.

I study body language in my spare time and he does seem to be attracted to me. (But I also see that in a handful of other guys I work with, so I take it with a grain of salt.) He faces me a lot even if hes not regarding me, he has lifted facial expressions around me and I catch him staring at me and only me a lot, but I've heard sometimes when you read body language you can project onto people and because I like him I could start seeing the signs of him liking me. (That may or may not be there.)

The most recent thing is that I had walked out of a cooler and smelled something so delicous that I had asked a co-worker if anyone had walked by because it smelled sooo good. She started laughing and said no one had walked by, to my surprise the guy I like was right around the corner from the cooler taking some inventory. I started to say nevermind, I figured it out but she started to make a big deal of it, and I could see him starting to blush while she said. "IDK but I agree it smells so good." Then to end the conversation she said "Must be that sexy man beast over there." All of which he heard.

Later that day I was in the backroom reaching for something on the top shelf and he came bursting in singing.-Shy guy, out right singing- Lynyrd Skynard's That smell. Which I'm pretty sure it wasn't on the radio. As soon as he saw me he stopped and went about his buisness. It was funny but awkard.

I think we have something cute if he does like me. But here's the age old question. How do I know for sure? Is there someway I can figure out if this is more than just an attraction. Or if it is even just attraction?

Thanks for your advice.

I haven't really gotten the chance to try to flirt with him yet. It seems now he's lost the flame that he used to have. I guess that happens. Just going to have to keep trying and see how this goes.

There's never any way you can know for sure before you commit. Do you like him? If so, what's the harm about sending some signals back? It sounds like you've got lots to work with. He sends signals, you send some signals, and the two of you work it out -- which has been the basis for lots of great relationships. That initial uncertainty can make for some great fun. Enjoy!
