Sometimes a man really is having a "midlife crisis." It usually starts earlier if he starting living like an adult earlier. Guys who were single until 29 usually take a lot longer getting to midlife crisis stage than the ones who got married at 18.
But other times men just get stuck with that label whenever they do things that men always do at any age, just because the man happened to be in middle age at the time. (Like wanting a fast car. Its not always a "midlife crisis." It's usually more like the long- awaited "midlife paycheck" and he can finally afford the kind of car he has wanted for decades all along.)

In that order.
