It is possible.. Some women have a rather unusual pattern of ovulation, which means it's possible for a woman to begin ovulation during her period and fall pregnant

I love this video, it's a bit goofy but it gives good information:

It's unlikely, but possible, to get pregnant as you describe. The sperm can live inside you for many days. Play it safe.

Just to comment on k_c100's remark that "While it is less likely then when she is roughly half way through her cycle, there is still a chance she could get pregnant" - half way through your cycle is when you're ovuating and are the MOST likely to get pregnant! Hoping this was a typo..
You can get pregnant when you have your period, though the chances are low. But it can still happen. Use protection or if you don't have protection, do something that can't get you pregnant! Hope you're okay. And I don't think it's dirty :)

A woman can technically get pregnant at any time during her cycle, and that includes during her period. While it is less likely then when she is roughly half way through her cycle, there is still a chance she could get pregnant.
So the simple solution is for the man to always wear a condom as this prevents both pregnancy and STD's, and for the woman to be on some form of birth control so there is never any worries about pregnancy.
Just remember, you can catch STD's when she is on her period too!

Hi, yes you can. It is not to do with whether a female is 'on' or not, it is to do with when she ovalates. This can happen before, during or after her period. Always best to use a condom to be safe regardless. :)
