LauraM agony auntTo anonymous poster below.....

Respectfully, I did say it's a matter of opinion. But to refute your view....

In case you didn't realize it, by my "narrow" definition, a male who engages in vaginal penetration would NOT be a virgin. And by yours, apparently engaging in oral sex constitutes a loss of virginity. Would solo sex (masturbation) or petting (mutual masturbation) also constitute a loss of virginity?

I'm not saying my definition is perfect, or even necessarily right, but it would be nice if you respect it. I don't think it's wrong either, and I believe others would agree with me.

I'm sorry... to the poster below me who said, "Virginity is defined by vaginal penetration..." I have to say you're wrong. First off, anal sex is SEX... thus the word "sex".

Also, if we're to use your narrow defintion of "virgin" that makes every male (since they do not have a vagina) a virgin, to say te least. And that's just not true, at all.

Sex is sex is sex... be it anal, oral or good old fashioned vaginal.

LauraM agony auntI do understand why having anal sex first is appealing. It's just less complicated at 14, and just (if not more) intimate. The fear of pregnancy is also a factor.

It will be painful the first time, no matter what you do or how much lube you use. So be prepared for some intensity right at the start. But it will get better.

Condoms are highly recommended, but they probably make it less comfortable for the girl. If you choose to go without, then I totally agree that you won't get pregnant if a guy ejaculates in your colon. But I would make sure that he enters you fully so that he doesn't slip out during the act....this may hurt a bit. Also, use the missionary position so that anything that might leak out heads away from your vagina.

I do not agree that you are no longer a virgin if you have anal sex. Virginity is defined by vaginal penetration. Anal sex and oral sex both represent penetration of different places....I doubt many people would say that oral sex with a guy means you lose your virginity. But in any case, it's a matter of opinion I guess.

Anyway, good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

I never understood this idea of having bum sex instead of normal sex in order to "save" your virginity...

I think it's a crazy thing to do. In some ways, anal sex can be more dangerous STD -wise, even though you can't get pregnant. Plus, it's completely painful and I doubt it would be that pleasurable for you as a (regular) virgin, and so young.

Go to scarleteen.com and do LOTS of reading before you do anything else. You need to know how your body works, at least the basics.

Also, I hate to tell you this, but you still "lose" your virginity by having anal sex, and you are no more virtuous because you discovered a shortcut... please use a condom!!!!!

jessica04 agony auntBecause you can never be 100% sure that someone does not have an STD, you should always take care to guard against it. Condoms all the way.

A female reader, jessica04 United States +, writes (24 February 2009):

jessica04 agony auntCan you get pregnant? Not likely. But here is why you should still use a condom:

Anal sex and leave small tears in the skin that is forced to stretch, making it possible for infected semen to get into the blood stream.

If you are participating in anal sex and then going to vaginal sex, you need a fresh, new condom before switching. Fecal matter from your anus can give you a nasty infection, called a UTI. The severity may vary.

If you ever do decide to try, use lots and lots and lots of lube. There can never be too much lube when having anal sex. Start out small though, with him using his finger just to stimulate the area. Just to get it relaxed. And please educate yourself as much as possible on sex and STD's.
