kitty_3 is verified as being by the original poster of the questionthat's the thing. at least half the time i am somewhat aware that i'm dreaming and i can manipulate actions and outcomes, etc. but i can't just change the dream.

reader, anonymous, writes (21 January 2009): Most people will realise they are in a dream at some point. Usually only once, maybe twice in a lifetime. And almost always by accident.
But controlling a dream from within is, as the previous poster said, LUCID DREAMING. And it can be learned.
But like hypnosis, how long and how easily you learn and even IF you learn, will be determined on your susceptibility and willingness to let your mind open. Some have enormous trouble with this.

i know that what you think about during the day will affect what you dream about. Lucid dreaming teaches you how to completely control your dreams. Check it out online or better yet buy a book on lucid dreaming:)
