Well, I'm not sure if this is correct, but if someone had a past realationship they have to wait about 5 years before any real signs of it come up in a blood test. Not sure if that's right though.

Blood test can only detect a few STI's the best thing to do is go and get you and your girlfriend tested its not that bad its a little embarressing first time but the people who work there do it again and again all day everyday there is nothing they havnt seen before and they are all very nice and put you at ease, having a smear test isnt that uncomfortable and its over in about 10 seconds, put your minds at rest and go and get yourselves tested its better to be safe then sorry and some STI's if there not detected early can have seriuos consequences like making you infertal.

Some, like AIDS and hepatitis, yes. Others, no. You need to have spear tests, etc.

Your probably aware that some conditions lie undetected for years but the majority can be picked up by various tests. If she has concerns she can go to a GUM clinic. Here they will take her blood to be tested and swabs from her lady parts also to be analysed. It takes two weeks for the results but well worth the wait.

is this for your girlfriend or for yourself? my advice is that both of you go for a proper chack up i.e her take a smear test and yourself the male equivalent. for women, they are not at all painful but a little incomfortable, but they test for all STD's. Yes you can get a blood test but the alternative is an easier and more effective way of staying safe.
