reader, anonymous, writes (19 February 2007): Not forgetting that "high maintenance" can also be emotional. Where the person needs constant emotional involvement, support encouragement. I would say being called high maintenance is a bad thing, but then again he may have said it in a joking context.

 If they are joking around because you are taking forever to get ready, doing your nails, making sure your hair is perfect... then it might not be a bad thing, but most of the time when someone says that you are high maintenance it means that you require too much attention. It is usually not a good thing.

 Well, honey, I think it depends on the guy. Most guys I know, including my boyfriend, prefer girls that aren't high maintenance.
Being a girl who is 'high maintenance' means you take a lot of time and care. Like he always has to buy you things, and and take you a lot of places, and always follow you around. You always have to look perfect, and you always are getting your nails done and things like that, and that's just how you are. That's a high mainenance girl. A low mainenance girl, like me, is something like...you throw your hair up in a pony tail, you put on what's clean and matches and looks good, own several but not too many pairs of shoes, and I don't wear a lot of make up...Just foundation to cover up a zit or something.
It depends on the guy when it comes to him liking or not liking that you are high maintenance. Maybe he thinks you are because he doesn't know you. I don't know if you are or not, but as long as you aren't always bugging him for something, there's nothing wrong with a manicure and a nice outfit. :)
