A male United Kingdom, anonymous writes:

I found out that I had HIV 3 months ago. Even though I'm taking medication, the thing that really upsets me is that I may not be able to have children. Will I be able to have children who aren't infected with HIV?

Rainee agony auntIndeed you can. Be sure to speak to your doctor about your intentions. This is a good resource:

http://aids.about.com/cs/womensresources/a/pregnancy.htm

It lists the chances of transmitting HIV to a child as 1 in 4 (25%) without treatment, but says you can reduce the risk to about 2-3% with treatment. Treatment includes taking the necessary medications, having a C-section, and not breast-feeding (because breast milk can transmit the virus).

Good Luck
