You will lose some weight, but both diet and exercise are needed to lose weight. Exercise can be fun! You can get really cool workout DVD

Enzian agony auntOne thing, I just would like to add (just to note in the case you plan to do a little bit of exercises):

There is one thing about exercises that you should look after. Don't eat just before you exercise, becaus you could get stomachache of it especially if you would go swimming. And also try to not eat just after you finished exercises. Wait for about 30 minustes before you will eat something. This is because if you don't eat just before, while and just after exercise, your body will burn calories from your body reserve what helps to lose weight. But if you eat, your body will burn first the calories in the food you just eat. Also whe you do exercises choose healthy food. But have a good look that you drink enough water while exercise.

Hope you will get to enjoy a little bit of exercise! Good luck!

TasteofIndia agony auntEveryone gave you great advice. I just wanted to stress again that even though eating healthy is great, and it'll help you lose weight, if you combine eating healthy AND exercise, you will lose weight MUCH more rapidly, and your body will look much hotter. You might lose pounds by eating right, but the flab will remain!

I just read in Cosmo that you can help yourself lose weight by trying to put 20% less on your plate than you ordinarily would. Just a little bit. People say that they hardly notice the difference after they've eaten, but it does save you a lot of calories.

What I find is an easy way to exercise (if you don't want to leave the house)... while my favorite T.V show is on, during all the commercials I'll do sit ups, push ups and I'll grab my little 7-pound weights and lift a little bit. It makes exercise a lot more fun for me.

It helps you keep going, because you basically work out until the commercial break is over. You're doing sets that last about five minutes.

Not to mention, I try not to eat after 8:00pm. If I get really hungry, I'll bust out some carrots or red peppers, but you tend to not burn as many calories at night because you're not very active at night.

Anyhow, I read a lot of great advice on here and hope that I added some help to the pile.

Good luck, sweetness! Exercise will make you feel healthy and give you more energy. The first few times you do it, you might get tired, but soon, you'll get a real adrenaline rush!

You can still lose weight, but you feel better and also look better (muscle tone instead of flab) if you exercise. A lot of thin people are flabby. Also if you exercise, like lifting some light weights and doing situps, the muscle tone you make will boost your metabolism and you end up burning more calories every hour.

Enzian agony auntHi dear

yes, you will lose weight only by eating less but not doing exercises. But it will take much longer and also your body will not get such a nice form as it would if you would do some exercises. To get your skin taut you would need some exercises and massages.

I make you some suggestions. It's up to you if you will do it or not:

- chose healthy food. You don't really need to eat less in amount of food, but less of junk food and sweets. Do you like vegetables and fruits? There are such a lot of different vegetables and fruits, I'm sure there is something wou will like!

- What will help is: as soon as you feel for something sweet, take a fruit, an apple or so. Because feeling for something sweet is a sign for the need of vitamins. And fruits are sweet and contain vitamins (so the feeling for sweets is somelike due to evolution).

- An other thing that will help: for dinner or lunch: first eat a vegetable soup (you would need to cook a fresh soup, don't take the instant or tin soups!). Just a few spoons of it but it will make you eat less of the rest of the dinner.

- Also try to eat some salad before you eat dinner of lunch. I don't know what it is like in Ireland, but I know in England they don't eat a lot of salad and also they don't put any dressing on it (at least the families I know). Here in Switzerland and also in Italy and France, they have very nice and different salad dressings. With this, salad is a very delicious thing. Have a look in the internet if you find the recipe for french and italien dressings.

- For dessert take a fruit

- Choos whole-grain bread or wholemeal bread not normal white bread. Try different ones. I'm sure you will like it or at least get used to it.

- Don't drink fizzy water with a lot of sugar and also not the ones with less calories. Try to drink water or tea or fruit juice (diluted with water). Don't put sugar in your tea.

- try not to eat to much calories and carbohydrates in the evening.

- Try to not eat anymore two houres before you go to bed.

- If you like chocolate or ice cream or what ever, don't abstain from it. But try to eat less. Make yoursef a roul like: I will only eat it once or twice a week but every time I eat it, I will very much enjoy it.

- Also even if you don't like it, try to do some exercises. Isn't there anything you like? Like go swimming with a friend once a week? Go for a walk 15 minutes every day? Go to an auqua fit group? And also go to massages once a week? Go cycling 15 minutes every second day? You really don't need to be trained for a marathon, but to lose weight, get a nice body form and also for your health, a little bit of exercises will help a lot.

All the best and good luck by losing your weight!

My solution to losing weight.

Dont cut out on eating less, but choose better foods than junk ohhh and when u feel like eating junk or have a craving for it: take a glass of water instead of the junk stuff and it will smooth out ur craving after couple of times. Choose like fruits and vegetables, have meats too but when it comes to stuff like that ...just dont over eat, many of us when eating even out in a restaurant think that we must eat all whats on the plate but thats not true..eat but have a limit..problem is when u excessively over eat.

Oh, if u r like the rest of the ppl and u need to get someplace that is like 2mins away from u, as opposed to taking a car, take a bike or even walk...over time, u will lose weight :) go to a gym for the fun of it too:) get out with friends and create like an outdoor activity that everyone can do...like volleyball or soccer etc.

hopes this helps!

A reader, anonymous, writes (29 June 2007):

It depends how overweight you are as to whether or not you will be able to loose up to 20 pounds without exercise.

If you consume less calories then you will loose weight. You are only making it difficult on yourself though if you do not combine this with exercise. Exercise and a controlled diet will aid you in loosing weight far quicker and easier.

You also need to be careful to loose the right foods from your diet. Cut excess food, but make sure you still have a proper diet so that your body can sensibly loose weight rather than begin to starve itself.

No1 ever lost weight from being lazy. Cutting out crappy foods might give you a bit more energy and then maybe you'll feel more like excercising. Even just going for a walk is excercise; get up off your butt and go for a stroll!
