Can I get a sperm donor to sign over their rights to me?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I need some legit information people. I have been diagnosed with herpes and really do not feel much into dating anymore. I want a child, regardless of if i will be having he/she alone. Is there any type of way to pick someone to be my "sperm donor" and them sign their rights over? I would only do this with someone who didnt want a baby....just the money they would be recieving. Is there such a thing, without going through sperm banks, etc? I would expect full rights and sole custody ahead of time. Thanks anyone.

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (12 September 2011):

Honeypie agony auntYes, you could find a guy who's "genetics" you like and ask him.

Though most guys would most likely say no. Not everyone likes the idea of a "mini-me" walking around out there.

I would suggest you find a lawyer first.

And, not only the GUY would have to sign over his rights, but YOU would have to sign over any finacial aid from him as well.

I can see it in cases where women wants children but not a partner, but I'm not sure I think it's actually fair on the child.

I have a friend who had a child a year ago via sperm donor, she was getting close to 40 and haven't met the right guy. I saw and understood her reasoning. She says her only regret is that her daughter is fatherless.

Also you are only 18-21? So what's the hurry?
