Ive been discussing it with my bf and my mum but my boyfriend told me he was going to get a ring and ask me in oct as we go to the southport fireworks. Because of this I asked him to ask for my mums blessing (I am extremely close to my mum and am very traditional) so on the tuesday morning he text me and let me know my mum had no objections. So i was dead excited and was looking at wedding stuff and got made fun of a bit at work because i was looking and he hadnt officially asked altho we had discussed and agreed we both wanted to. So in order for me not to be made fun of he sent me a text saying 'ok unoficially, will you marry me?' and i said yes because i love him very much. We had a joke about him doing it over text so he said ill ask you in person properly then. So then when we were at my house on the setee he looked at me and smiled then said so do you want me to ask you in person? I said thats your choice so he got down on one knee and asked me. I know the ring was a big thing to him so i gave him the ring he bought me the christmas before and he put that on as a temporary one until he buys an engagement ring. Now though as far as I am concerned, we are engaged but he keeps saying its not official until i get a ring. I am ready to tell my parents ect but he said he wants to wait to do it in oct and then it will be officially official. Can anyone clarify if we are in fact officially engaged, my mum says we are as does my best friend and friend from work. Thanks a milEmx

He sounds pretty serious though, and surely it's academic whether it's 'official' or not?
