I don't get that.....your 16, a virgin...and had no problem. I am a virgin and it was painful. She used the smallest and could not finish the exam because it would tear my hymen....extremely painful! I want the test cause I'm having problems and still no idea what's wrong. She said she could finish it but she would have to rupture the hymen first.

I am a sixteen year old virgin and the gyno gave me a pap smear test. The results were abnormal. I've never been anywhere near close to a guy with nothing on, so it has nothing to do with sex. So yes, you should get the test because you could have cancer. I am waiting on the biopsy scheduled for next week. While cervical cancer may be MOSTLY cause by HPV caused by sex, it is not always. Also, I did not find the test painful, just awkward. However, everyone is different.

Question
I am a 40-year-old woman who is still a virgin. Do I need to go for a cervical smear test or not?
Answer
If you have never had sexual intercourse, you probably do not need to have a cervical smear test.
Cervical cancer is more common in women who are sexually active, and the risk increases with number of sexual partners a woman has.
Cervical cancer is virtually unknown in nuns. Doing a smear test on a woman who is a virgin can also be quite difficult.
Unless you have a strong family history of cervical cancer or you have symptoms such as irregular bleeding between periods, it isn't essential you have a smear test because the risk of you developing cervical cancer is very low.
Yours sincerely

I know what you're saying supersammie. But had a google and came up with this, so its not strictly an std no, but thats why i said its pretty much an std, i guess this article kinda expleins what i was getting at..
Can you get cervical cancer if you are a virgin and have never had sex?
It is very unlikely that you would get cervical cancer if you are a virgin. But we do not know for sure if this completely protects you. There are risk factors for developing changes in the cervix that can lead to cancer, or for cervical cancer itself. Being sexually active from a young age is a well known risk factor.
A study done in 1950 found that woman who married before the age of 20 had twice the risk of developing cervical cancer than those who married later. Another study done in 1952 of 13,000 nuns found no cases of cervical cancer. These studies and other much more recent studies, all indicate that women are more at risk of developing cervical cancer once they have become sexually active.
The reason for this increased risk is mainly because you can catch a virus called HPV during sex with someone who is infected. HPV stands for human papilloma virus. HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer. It is hardly ever found in women who have never had sex.

I think that the recommendation is that women get pap smears when they become sexually active or reach the age of 21.
Here's some more information on this subject.

The breaking of the hymen, I really don't know what happens during a routine pelvic exam, if it will break. I actually think this is a good question for your gynecologist.
Good luck!

you can get cervical cancer whether your a virgin or not, it is good to get a smear test even if your a virgin, just to be checked or not,
i disagree with Hlskitten, because cervical cancer isn't like a sexual transmitted disease, you cant pass on lung cancer like you can pass on clymidia. its not a STD.
its just more common for the woman to not be a virgin die to being in thier 20's when gettin a smear test.
but if u get a smear test as a virgin it wont break your hymen.
hope this helps. x

I dont think virgins have smear tests no. Cervical cancer is pretty much a sexually transmitted disease i gather and someone that hasn't had sex would be very unlikely to get it as far as i know. Obviously check with your doctors though.
