Boyfriend talking to Ex on Facebook - how should I take this?

Question - (26 June 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 28 June 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

So im not sure that my boyfriend talking to someone on facebook that he has dated should bother me. My boyfriend and I have been together for a year now and this girl that he is friends with on facebook talks to him quite a bit. When i had told him that someone i had dated tried to contact me, it bothered him, but yet he still has conversations with this lady that he had dated for a few months. Im positive he is not doing anything behind my back, but this still kind of bothers me that he speaks to someone that he has had feelings for. Is this normal and is it okay for a boyfriend to talk to an ex?

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (28 June 2011):

k_c100 agony auntA lot of people, men and women, are friends with ex's and keep in touch, there is nothing wrong with that. As long as he is honest about it and doesnt try and hide it from you, then you've got nothing to worry about.

If they started meeting up frequently and he starts texting her all day etc then that would be worrying, but if it is just an occasional chat on Facebook that is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned with.

I hope this helps and good luck!
