You'll be fine. You'd probably be amazed at how much most girls hope that someone -anyone!- would ask them out!
When you ask her to do something with you, try to pick something that's not too intensive or one-on-one (I'm thinking you should avoid quiet restaurants, for example) for the reason that it can put a lot of pressure on both of you. Ask her if she'd like to get a coffee after school, or study with you, or go ice skating, or even just meet at the shopping centre and walk around...
Whatever you suggest, make it relatively low-pressure, and ask her in a way that makes it sound fun. This is a negative, no-fun spin (and easy to turn down): "Don't suppose you'd wanna get a coffee with me?" For comparison, here's a Positive spin: "Have you tried Starbucks' Mocha Latte yet? You'd love it. Can I buy you one after class?"
It's nerve-wracking, sure, but the chances of being turned down are really small, so go for it!

If she laughs at things you say it sounds like you know your answer. Girls love a guy that can make them laugh, once you have her chuckling you know you have your foot in the door, now all you have to do is close the deal. Try the direct approach, it is fast and easy and eliminates all of the games you can get stuck playing when trying to get to know a girl, just say you have a lot of fun when you are around and you were wondering if she might like to go out with you some time. Maybe you could plan something where there will be other friends of both of yours if you sense she is a little sketchy about being alone with you before she knows you that well. Good luck.
