Hi,

I guess I should start at the beggining. I am a girl at 16 years old

I went out with a boy who I'll call Simon (not his name) around a year ago but after a few months we got bored and broke up (which is understandable as we are teenagers (Well thats what my mum says :/ ))

We stayed friends and now we are close best friends. Around 10 months ago I introduced him to one of my best friends they were really friendly and after a while he started to go out with her. They broke up a week ago. She is still my best friend and so is he, but I have developed feelings for him ever since, and I think a bit before, they broke up.

The girl who broke up with him (and my best friend) immediatly went out with another boy, and I was left picking up the peices.

I really like him and dont want to ruin the friendship, How long should I wait? And should I ask my best friend permission? Please help?

A reader, anonymous, writes (9 June 2011):

You need to make sure he doesn't just rebound on you.. If he does have the same feelings as you he won't know until he's not still hurting after your best friend dumped him.

Did your best friend ask your permission when she went out with him? I would mention to her you have feelings for him, but only after you have talked to him. I'm not sure exactly how long to wait to talk to him... These things depend on the people.

Be very careful about this. I would keep your friendship strong and keep showing you care as a friend, and then if it's meant to be things will develop in future. You don't want to rush these things.
