Question - (22 August 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 23 August 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok, I have a dilemma. So I recently ran into a guy I used to know. My ex boyfriend's sister dated him for years and years. He had made it clear in the past that he was interested in me but I was never really interested because I was usually dating someone.

Anyway he works at my job and ever since he ran into me, hes been sending me all sorts of flirty messages over my company's IM client and I don't know what to do. Last time it happened I just stopped talking to him. I haven't exactly told him to f*** off because Im not sure of the work appropriate way to do that but I have made it clear Im not interested. I don't even want to sign on at work anymore, which I need to do in order to work.

I am NOT interested and am in a happy 5 year long relationship. The guy keeps telling me he will divorce his wife if I will break up with my boyfriend and its gotten really bad no matter how much I tell him I am happy where I am and don't want any part of any other guy. I mentioned to him when he first started talking to me, when HE brought up stuff from the past, that sure there had been some chemistry there. Right after that though I said that that was in the past.

I don't want to get him fired but I don't know what to do. Im afraid to talk to co-workers about it because Im not sure if I will get in trouble since I mentioned we had past chemistry and if I talk to my boyfriend he will freak out and worry and I dont want to cause needless drama!

How do I get him to leave me alone???

Tell him that unless he stops 100% you'll turn over his texts to HR and report him for making unwanted advances. Your company will likely put him on notice that if he doesn't stop that they'll take action. Save 10 to 20 of the messages and have HR talk to him.
