reader, anonymous, writes (24 April 2007): Love isn't a waste of time and whoever told you that are just liars and don't have a clue about what they are talking about. If love wasn't around then parents wouldn't care about their children and families wouldn't care about other relatives. Plus falling in love is a great feeling, not a waste of time. And anyway, how does love waste time?

Love is beautiful and special and hope that one day you will find it and prove all your daft thoughts wrong. If this was an idea by your parents then i can identify with that, my mam was just the same. You have to clear your brain and unlearn a lot of what you have been told. Discover it all for yourself!

 You couldn't be further from the truth. If you parent(s) have brought you up to believe this then it is highly likely they have been hurt and they are trying to protect you from the same thing.
You can't be protected from this and to be honest - it isn't healthy.
Please understand that 'love' is one thing and 'sex' is another. Love is having stong loving emotions for someone and part of the emotion is having sex with this person.
Sex on it's own without the feeling of love isn't wrong either. It can make you and the other person feel good but it mostly never lasts. Some people avoid this kind of sex and some people have it a lot. It just depends what you want from life. I tend to go for love/sex not just sex on it's own as it's better for me. You will find out how you feel sooner or later.
I will say one thing - sex is one of life's finest pleasures
and it gets better when you love the person you are doing it with.
Don't avoid this part of life - it's what makes us human.
